Professional Status of Alumni, Department of Communication at Seoul National University (Data as of May 2008)
After selecting the first class of students in 1975 (Admission in 1974), the Department of Communication produced about 1000 graduates over the past 40 years. Out of the 983 people who started in 2008 and graduated, 24% of the graduates, based on 856 people whose career paths were identified, went on to press, and about 17% advanced to higher academics. 20% of graduates continued on to media related industries as well. All in all, about 62% of graduates went on to major related fields including academics and press. The proportion of graduates who advanced onto major related fields increased up to 2005, although recently the trends show a slight decline in progression. This phenomenon could be due to the increase of the proportion of graduates advancing to economic or industry related fields. Regardless of this relative decline, the trend still holds in majority of graduates entering press and media related fields. Also, entries into the field of Information and Telecommunications are more frequent, per its progressive development after the year 2000. Many graduates have chosen the path of academics, and currently a total of 88 graduates are teaching full-time at Seoul National University. Additionally, graduates are actively working and leading the Korean society in the fields of economics, political relations, legal circles, and other related fields.
